Without A Map By: Meredith Hall
"Time for classes, children, she says, and we make our way to block class. I think of that one word for the rest of the day:Children. it confuses me. I certainly am no longer a child. I go to sleep feeling like an impostor hiding among good and unsuspectin people, a girl who has given away a child secreting herself among children.' (36, Hall)
I am reading Without A Map a memoir by Meredith Hall. In the book Meredith gets pregnant at sixteen and it changes her whole life. Her mom tells her she can't live with her any longer so she goes and lives with her father but he dosn't really want anything to do with her. Meredith tries to make it through life and tries to convince her parents that she can keep her baby but they make her give it up for adoption. this makesher feel really sad because she has grown to love the child growing in her but she cant keep it. As she grows up she has to pretty much live on her own and has no help from her parents.
I choose this quote because it really made me think of Merediths situation and make me think. It really shows how Meredith feels and how she has felt she has grown up alot because of what she has gone through. Here you can see that she no longer sees herself as a child because she as already given birth to her child and had to give it up for adoption. While she was going through this she had to do things all on her on. she had through the struggles and hoplessness all on her on and didn't have anyone to talk to. I think this quote really shows how she has grown up and how her life has changed and how she dosn't feel like a kid anymore. It shows that she feels uncomfortale being called a child. I think that her having to deal with going through life on her own has taught her alot about how hard life is.
Insightful comments. I think it must be tough for her to have gone through this. I can't imagine a teen having to deal with pregnancy. I can see from your post where the title may have come from. This girl seems lost and aimless. Do you think she would have ended up this way because of her relationship with her parents or was it only because of having to give up the baby?
